If you read my recently updated 'About' page, you would know that a few years ago, I had an active blog on Tumblr. At the time, I was growing my followers, and a fellow blogger offered me a domain name for $5. With the little money I had on Paypal, I immediately grabbed the offer and got myself a .info domain for a year.
Recently, I'd been thinking about getting a domain for this blog but didn't exactly know how. Godaddy and Namecheap are pretty popular, but I was looking for a cheaper option. After all, I don't really need the hosting they're offering, and I'm only interested in the domain name alone. Good thing, I found out about Namesilo, a domain registrar offering solely a domain name for your site.
Namesilo is cheap compared to anything else. Their standard pricing for a .com domain with free privacy is $8.99/year but they're on sale for $5.99. However, you can get it for a more discounted price of $4.99 if you just follow the steps below.
PURCHASING YOUR DOMAIN NAME
REGISTER USING THIS LINK - Click to be redirected to the registration page
TYPE YOUR PREFERRED DOMAIN NAME on the search box then click search. You can do multiple domain search at once if you prefer. This is to check the availability of the domain name you want to use.
CHOOSE WHICH DOMAIN EXTENSION you would like to use. You can use the following extensions listed. Notice that there are cheaper ones than the .com extension such as the .info so it's totally up to you which one you'd like to use, but for many reasons, I suggest you use a .com domain name.
APPLY COUPON CODE "lykachiang" then setup configuration settings according to your preference. The coupon code will allow you to get a $1 discount from your purchase. After clicking continue, you will be asked to fill up a form. Just input your information then it's all good.
SELECT BILLING OPTION. You can use one of the following billing options below. If you're from the Philippines and have no access to any of these, please leave a comment below together with your email address so I can contact you directly and help.
LINKING YOUR DOMAIN NAME TO YOUR BLOGGER ACCOUNT
Now that you're all set, you may then link your custom domain name to your blogger account. How? Just follow the steps below.
GO TO YOUR BLOGGER SETTINGS > PUBLISHING then type in your domain name. At first, you would get an error that says "We have not been able to verify your authority to this domain."
GO TO YOUR NAMESILO ACCOUNT. Click Manage My Domain > Manage DNS for this domain (the globe icon). Once on the page, add CNAME and A values. The CNAME is to verify the domain on your blogger account, while the A values are needed so that your site won't give an error when you add WWW to the URL.
For CNAME value, refer to the one indicated on your Blogger account. As you can see on the photo of my Blogger settings, it says there to input 73iweqbwxqzp as host and gv-jgveoz3uylub5.dv.googlehosted.com as the target.

ReplyDeleteI am always thinking of buying at Godaddy but hesitant cause of their price. It will now become Php49 if you'll purchase the domain name for 2 years (2nd year will be Php700++). But this one is so cheap! That I can even buy 2 names that I want! :D Thanks for sharing! Might try this one soon! :D

This takes me back to the time before I was self hosting and thinking about what I needed to do to grow my blog and what were my next steps. I wish I could have had this back then. It would have been so useful.

It has been worthwhile to visit a domain name forum, as suggested by my brother, because it helped me to choose the best domain name for my upcoming e-shop related to handbags and purses.
ReplyDeleteOther than scrutinizing the horde of sites committed to those hoping to purchase modest area names another great choice is to search for space names that are going to (or have effectively) lapsed. Control of area names is conceded for a specific time-frame and if not reestablished or paid, will terminate. When these space names terminate they will be erased and will by and by be accessible for public deal. http://bigdomain.my/
